Dear my 33 years old self,
Wow, can you believe that you are going to be THIRTY THREE YEARS old soon? And this happened in 2020, the year where pandemic happened and everything went wrong. Well, a lot has happened this year, some are good, some are bad, but anyway, let’s make this moment count.
When you are in your 20s, birthdays were always filled with laughters and parties. Remember those people who will show up on your door with powders and eggs? Those were the days. When you reach 30s, birthday are those moment when you feel like sitting alone in your room and quietly thinking about those hits and misses. Just like what we did together tonight. But hey, it’s all right.
Your 32s were filled with accomplishments and mistakes. And I’m really proud of you, for being able to go through it all. Here are some things you need to remember, my soon to be 33 years old self :
Life doesn’t always work out the way we want it to. There are things that you can control and there are some that you simply can’t. You don’t always get what you want, but if you try hard enough, you’ll get just what you need.
Focus on things that makes you happy, no matter how silly it is. And learn to appreciate everything that you have at the moment. Make peace with those painful past, don’t worry about what others think of you, and boy, it’s still okay to make mistakes, even though you’re 33 now. You’ll struggle at times, but you’re also growing.
Don’t take things for granted, and always, always, stay kind. Be the one who puts a smile on everyone’s faces, but don’t try too hard to be a superhero either. Be gentle with yourself and ask for help when you need it the most. Sure, you’ll lose some people, that’s inevitable, but you’ll also meet more during your journey ahead.
There may be times when you feel like giving up, but do you remember that quote you loved many years ago? The one that says : “Everything will be okay in the end. If it’s not okay, it’s not the end.” Remember that one? Well, that one still applies at 33.
So, happy birthday, my dear self. Here’s to becoming 33 and making the most of it.
Remember that you are loved, and always the best damn version of you!
from your 32 years old self
"In the end, it's not the years in your life that count;
it's the life in your years."
